Walkabout Aunty - Walking the journey with you
Walkabout Aunty developed through the Waratah Project as Wallaby Indigenous Corporation responded to the need for more flexible, culturally safe outreach support in the community.
What began as part of the Waratah Project has grown into an important outreach approach that will continue to support people beyond the life of a single project or funding period.
Walkabout Aunty is Wallaby Indigenous Corporation's mobile outreach service, created to meet people where they are and walk alongside them through their journey.
We provide culturally safe support, advocacy, referrals, housing, homelessness connections, service navigation and practical assistance.
Our outreach extends across New England and the Tablelands, the Mid North Coast, and Sydney, helping people who may face barriers to accessing services due to transport, homelessness, safety concerns, distance, or difficulty navigating mainstream systems.
Walkabout Aunty is about more than making a referral - it is about listening, building trust, making connections and helping people find a pathway forward,
We Meet You Where You Are
Walkabout Aunty brings support into the community rather than expecting everyone to come into an office.
We understand that transport, homelessness, safety concerns, distance, family circumstances or difficulty navigating services can make it hard for people to access the help they need,
By meeting people where they are, we can listen, understand what support is needed and help make the right connection.
Walking Alongside You
Walkabout Aunty provides more than information or a referral.
We take the time to listen, understand what is happening and help people work through the right steps.
Support may include advocacy, referrals, housing and homelessness connections, paperwork, service navigation and practical assistance.
Where possible, we stay connected and continue walking alongside people as they move through services and work towards greater safety, stability and wellbeing.
